When you look at a map of the Los Angeles area it is deceptive in terms of size. In fact it is one large megalopolis of many cities put together house after house and building after building. All this infrastructure is strung together by a vast network of surface streets and freeways.
Just yesterday we drove from Malibu to Thousand Oaks and back, then from Malibu to the Los Angeles Airport, then on back to Thousand Oaks and finally returning to Malibu. The entire route was approximately 160 miles. It took us a total 5 hours of driving or half the day sitting in the car in traffic. The Los Angeles area is big.
