A 4.7 Wakeup Call

I was just remarking to Brenda the other day that it would be cool to experience an earthquake here in Southern California. Well it happened this morning just after 7am and was centered less than five miles away. I was shaving when we were hit by a giant jolt, then a pause and then 15 seconds of rocking from side to side. It was violent enough to knock a book off the shelf and move picture frames around.

As it is happens so unexpectedly and quickly, all you really have time for is hold on to something solid. When it stops, the next thing you think about is whether this is a pre-shock? Just in case, we quickly gathered our belongs and prepared for a quick departure from this lovely beach house on stilts. Since we are leaving to drive up north anyway, best to leave sooner than later.
