Modern Travel

Back in the 1960’s air travel was coming of age. It was an exciting time to fly in the air to exotic destinations. Today the story is quite a bit different.

Yesterday we were to fly home from Antigua. We arrived at the airport in plenty of time, three hours before the flight. Then 10 minutes before boarding the first 30 minute delay was announced. Then we got an hour delay. After that it was reported a medical emergency was in progress on the plane with a crew member. We now had to wait for a replacement crew member. Finally two hours after that the entire flight was cancelled which meant we missed all our connecting flights back to Albuquerque.

Now here came the fun part with 200 people waiting in line to rebook new flights. You can’t rebook your own flights. Another hour and a half in line I am told there are no available flights to get us home for the next two days! Plus, we find out hotel availability is limited and we will have to wait another hour for them to unload our bags off the plane.

We have come a long way since the advent of advent of air travel.
