St. Kitts and Nevis

These are two islands that are in very close proximity. Each is a different nation. In the morning we took a tour of St.Kitts. Fortunately for us the ship anchored far away from the main town. In the town proper this morning there were 4 cruisers, Virgin, Celebrity, Norwegian and Costa. The total population of those four vessels amounted to 20,000 people, of which 10,000 flooded the harbor. The traffic jams it caused were horrible in this island of 40,000.

Our driver was a chatty gentleman who regaled us with stories of the islands. In fact we learned that Alexander Hamilton was born on Nevis. Our driver took us to an old plantation house and we visited the world heritage site, Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park. Driving the narrow one lane roads was a bit unnerving. At the fort one vehicle got stuck in an archway and caused a massive backup. We also learned that the island has a large population of green monkeys, latest count is 80,000! It was great fun and in the end a great educational trip on a beautiful island to cap the last day of our cruise.
