Rabbits have not been readily adopted as a cute Easter mammal like in Europe and America. Rabbits were imported from Europe in 1859. About 20 were released to enable the English to hunt them for sport. However, due to the excellent climate and rabbit proclivity to breed quickly, their population ballooned into millions. They destroyed many habitats for indigenous animals. This is why rabbits are not presented as the cute bunnies we know in America. The photo below give you an idea of how rabbits are viewed here.
