Today is Good Friday, a very somber day in Christendom. Here in Brisbane most of the retail shops are closed in observance of the occasion. You can’t buy groceries even at the large groceries stores like Woolworths or Coles. They are closed. Some restaurants are open but they charge a hefty 20% surcharge in order to pay the employees overtime wages to serve you.
All of us taking time off adds to the contemplation and feeling of community. The day is rainy and cool as fall approaches. I am contemplating the suffering of so many in the world today and pray Easter will bring a renewal and rebirth of better days ahead.
