Since we plan to be in Brisbane for a few months over the winter we decided to look for a long term rental. Looking for and securing a rental in Australia is a whole journey in itself – different country, different rules, a really competitive rental market, and extensive paperwork which must be properly filled out first to get a rental score (like a credit report.) The process is almost as bad as Brenda’s visa application! Thank goodness we have an agent helping us out.
Once you’ve submitted your vitals online and gotten a score, then you can look for properties on the internet and schedule an inspection. If you like something you can “make an offer,” only to file a lot more paperwork. They don’t care that we’re long-time homeowners, but only want our rental history. Interesting process to say the least.
Much to our horror the first inspection we attended had over 50 other people looking at the same property. But we’re being vetted right now for a condo that checks the boxes, so it’s a start. Keeping our fingers crossed we find something before our Airbnb runs out next week, as it will be a much better scenario. Stay tuned to this channel!
