Stairs, Stairs and More Stairs

The old city of Edinburgh has an unusual layout. The main road is called the Royal Mile which runs on the crest of a hill all the way up to the castle located at the top. On either side of this road, the hill slopes steeply downward. The city cleverly added steep steps on either side to allow citizens to climb up to the Royal Mile. Houses are built surrounding these steps all the way to the bottom valley. These lanes are called a “Close”.

Taking the steps several times a day has really helped our physical fitness regime. But after a glass of whisky they don’t seem that hard to climb.
