The 19th is my birthday and I am now officially 69 years old. Brenda and I got up early and walked to the beach to greet the sunrise and bless ourselves with the first light. We later had breakfast at La Playa, one of my favorite restauarants on the beach in Los Barriles, and had shrimp chipotle eggs benedict with mimosas. Afterwards I enjoyed a lovely zoom call with daughter Kate and her friend Andy.
In the late afternoon our friends Clive and Elizabeth gave me a surprise birthday Facetime call from Australia. It was a delight to hear from them. And our other friends, Wendy and Mike from my birth place, Perth, emailed special greetings, along with birthday wishes from other friends and family around the world.
In the evening Brenda arranged for a fabulous party with our local friends Annalisa, Roberto, and Terry at Spa Buena Vista resort. Suzette, the wonderful manager, arranged for a lovely and delicious birthday celebration for us on the outside patio overlooking the pool. With delicious appetizers, salads, soups, main dishes, and apertitifs, we were wined and dined in the most delightful way as the sun set behind the palm trees. The chef and staff then delivered a magnificent chocolate birthday cake while the amazing Mexican troubadore Anibal Cota sang beautiful traditional songs the whole night through.
This birthday celebration also marked a very special moment for Brenda and me – a signal that our magical six-month journey, bookended by our two birthdays, is soon coming to an end. We began with Brenda’s Birthday celebration with friends in Tuscany last fall, and are ending with my Birthday celebration with friends in Baja last night.
