Too Many Topes

When you drive in Baja you are likely to encounter a Tope. In order to discourage speeding on the highway and in cities, the Mexican government has installed speed bumps all over the place. You have to be careful to see them as your speeding vehicle will fly up in the air when you least expect it. The idea is to reduce your speed on the highway or on dirt roads to a very slow 5 mph. The government is nice enough to paint them a bright yellow which is fairly easy to see on black pavement. However, when the yellow paint wears off they are a devil to see especially at night. And of course on a dirt road they are often hidden by the dirt piling up on them as cars cross by. It is annoying to go from Tope to Tope to Tope every few hundred feet.
