Our day in Lisbon commenced by our ship Eurodam gliding under a replica of the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge. Our scheduled tour took us to two important locations along the river which had a monument to Portugal explorers and the other was an old fort the Torre de Belem guarding the passage into Lisbon.
Afterwards we drove to the beach-side resort of Cascais and had a lovely lunch of typical Portuguese food. In the late afternoon, we drove up to the old winter palace of the kings in Sintra. Brenda and I took a tour of the castle and admired the lovely Moorish and European architecture as well as the lovely town.
Finally back in Lisbon we dropped into the main cathedral and monastery for a dramatic night time look at the beautiful gothic interior unlike any we have seen. We also paid our respects to Vasco de Gama who is buried there. All in all a long 7 hour day but worth the time.
