This morning we caught up on some business work and e-mails that needed responding. In the afternoon we took a trip up to Castel Gandolfo where the Pope has his summer residence and takes a break from Rome. It is up in the hills above the Vatican and in a small town next to the impressive lake called Lago Albano. It’s a beautiful little town and we toured the Papal Gardens and Residence.
We were very happy with the 40 minute tour by mini-bus around the beautiful gardens. Then we walked through the residence and I was personally impressed with the modesty of the accommodations and bedroom for the Pope. Compared to the Villa Borgese we saw yesterday, the present day Pope has a sensitivity toward piety over prosperity.
