No Tipping

Oct 31

My friends in America are amazed there is no tipping required at most restaurants in Australia. This is because the restaurant owners pay a decent livable wage to their staff. What this means is that restaurants are always busy at lunchtime and evenings full of customers. And that creates a lovely buzz all over town that seems to indicate people are happy. For me, it means restaurant meals cost 15%, 20% or 25% less in tips than in the States. That makes me happy too.
