Sept 20
Our trip from Santa Fe has literally come to the end of the road in San Francisco. We checked into the Cliffs hotel and returned our rental car. Now we are on foot walking around the city until Sunday afternoon.
It’s delightful for us to be back in this beautiful place where both Brenda and I spent so much of our working lives. The air here is a mix of city plus salt sea breezes that creates its own unique aroma. And the clanging of the Cable Car bells assures you are indeed in San Francisco. Newly instituted are driverless cars bobbing and weaving through crosswalks and traffic. It’s quite shocking seeing no one in the driver seat.
For dinner we went to Le Central in the French quarter. They are famous for their Cassoulet which as of the 20th has been cooking for 18,198 days! It’s also well known for being the goto restaurant for former mayor Willie Brown and San Francisco writer Herb Caen. We sat at their favorite table. Following dinner we walked to ACT to see a performance of Noel Cowards’ “Private Lives”. What could be a better way to end a road trip?
