Opening Weekend, Part 2

The second evening of Santa Fe Opera’s Opening Weekend took us to the lovely home of A. Charles Forte. Charles is on the Board of Santa Fe Opera. He opened up his beautiful home for a catered dinner for about 40 guests celebrating the weekend. Brenda and I very much enjoyed mixing with our old friends and making new ones. The thing about Santa Fe is it attracts people from the West and East coasts of the United States, as well as Chicago, Dallas, and Houston. The cultural mix brings opera lovers from all over the country, some who only come once a year for this weekend. It’s quite the social gathering!

After our lovely dinner on Saturday evening, we drove back to the opera house to see opening night of The Flying Dutchman. The Wagner opera is very somber and dark, but it’s one of Brenda’s favorites. The German influence and heavy themes were very evident and were a total contrast to soft sunset and warm night air in Santa Fe.
