Paying It Forward

In the spirit of helping wherever we can, Brenda had an opportunity to use her skills last week to help Somerville House earn an extra $50,000.00 at their annual fundraiser.

When we toured the historic Somerville House private girls’ school campus last Wednesday with our auntie and school alum, Dr Frances Thomas, Brenda bonded with the development director who gave the tour. The school’s annual fundraiser was two days away and they chatted about fundraising strategies that are successful in the States. Ultimately, Petrina adopted one new idea and invited Brenda to be her guest at the event to help pull it off.

Somerville House’s annual luncheon was held on a beautiful sunny autumn day at Howard Smith Wharves overlooking the Brisbane River and Storey Bridge. It was fun for Brenda to be back in fundraising mode, helping to raise money for the school’s scholarship fund. This year the scholarships will go to girls from Queensland’s Bush Country who would otherwise have limited opportunities for a good education.

Later that evening, we took Petrina and her husband to the Brisbane Jazz Club to cap off a great day.
