Celebrating at Government House

The Governor of Queensland lives in a beautiful mansion in Brisbane. This Coronation Day for King Charles III was celebrated by holding an open event at the Government House. We arrived to a huge crowd of people waiting at the gates. Once inside we heard the Army Band playing various English hit songs from the James Bond theme to many Beatles hits.

We decided to make a picnic of it in the warm fall air of 76 degrees. We loved the people watching and listening to the music. A tour of the mansion was in order. Precisely at 1pm we saw and heard the thunderous roar of a low flying military jet overhead. In the distance the town crier announced the coronation to the public in attendance. Wrapping up the afternoon we were moved by listening to the Brisbane Police Pipe and Drum Corps. It reminded us of our trip to Scotland at the beginning of our adventure this past year just after Queen Elizabeth died.

On the way home we were looking for the bus stop and asked a nearby lady where it might be. She replied that her car was just a few feet away and would drive us home. She promised she wasn’t an axe murderer! What a wonderful community where people are not afraid of each other and not everything has a price tag in order to be nice. We truly felt like royalty today! We wish King Charles III all the best. Long Live the King.
