Checked out for BCC

I have taken a few days off due to a recent skin doctor diagnosis of Basil Cell Carcinoma on the skin near my clavicle. In some ways it is fortunate to have this checked out here in Queensland which is the skin cancer capital of the world. My doctor happens to be one of the leading experts in this field along with so many others here.

Yesterday I had an operation in the doctor’s office to have it removed under local anesthetic. The procedure took about 40 minutes and it was a bit awkward talking about Artifical Inteligence software while he excised a two inch section of my flesh! Hopefully he got the whole thing out. My Australian Medicare paid for half the cost and my portion ran $150 for the procedure.

The doctor told me something which I feel is important to relay. He said “Skin cancer is one of the worst cancers to get and yet one of the most easily treated if you catch it early enough”. The moral of the story, get your skin checked at least annually especially if you like hanging out in the sun without sun blocking cream.
