On the surface, Brisbane looks like any other metropolis. If you scratch the surface you find some wonderful gifts the city has left its citizens. There are a bunch of free stuff you can enjoy that makes you feel special,
There is the City Hopper Ferry that takes you to key highlights of the city. The many gorgeous parks which are exquisitely maintained are free. These parks have free barbecues complete with gas. Many museums are free as well. Telstra offers you free phone calls to anywhere in Australia from their phone booths (yes they still have them here). The South Bank park has a fantastic pool that looks like a tropical beach, also free with appropriate life guards. Bike paths will often have free air pumps and bike repair tools attached to bike stations.
And finally my favorite free thing is the organic epicurious produce garden cultivated by the city parks dept. They have a huge variety of herbs and veggies available for free. Just go to the special cart and ask for what you want like fresh organic basil.
