The Sacred Bunya Tree

For the local Kabi Kabi tribe of Aborigines, the Bunya tree is considered sacred. Like a pine tree it has cones which provided food for the indigenous people. It is native to the Queensland area.

Several years ago I interviewed Beverly Hand a Kabi Kabi elder who spoke about the traditions of her people and the Bunya tree. The video was produced for the Hinterland Bush Links environmental nonprofit.
