Today is Thanksgiving for us in Australia s day early from the US. Brenda and I have much to be thankful for. We have wonderful daughters, great friends, travelled safely, have the things we need and are in good health. We are deeply grateful for these things and more.
Yesterday, we saw two old family friends who live in Perth. They are Mike and Wendy Murphy. Mike and my eldest brother Peter (now deceased for several years) were school mates when we lived in Perth. They were good friends and Mike knew me when I was born nearly 70 years ago.
In the afternoon, Wendy prepared us a delicious home-made lunch and then they toured us around the city. They showed us the old house where my family lived in the 1950’s. The house was rented in a poorer neighborhood and I remember it as three year old. I was famous for letting out the chickens from the coup that my mom maintained. Today that same house is worth several million dollars. For me the memories are priceless.
Since I am in the place of my birth, and close enough to my actual birthday, we decided to celebrate early last night. But most of all, I want to give the Murphy’s a special shout out for being connected with my family for all these years. It’s great to be back and feel their embrace in person.
