Western Australia is one of the most mineral rich areas in the world. The Perth Mint played a vital role in processing and minting coins for Australia. Their exhibit about gold gives a fascinating look at the history of gold discovery in this part of the world.
Our guide took us on a tour of the discovery of enormous gold nuggets dug up merely inches below farmer fields. We saw the largest minted gold coin weighing at one ton and valued at more than $90 million Australian dollars! We also established our weight in gold. My value was nearly $9 million Australian dollars.
Finally we saw the pouring of melted gold made into a gold bar worth only half a million dollars. All in all this was a very rich and worthwhile experience.
