Stormy Scotland

When we left Portree, the rain was coming down in sheets and the wind was howling. I estimate gusts of up to 50mph was buffeting our car over the highway. Going slowly offers us the opportunity to really soak up the environment. Gushing riverlets cascaded down the mountains. They looked like veins of snow, dozens across a mountainside.

Once we crossed the bridge connecting the Isle of Skye we dropped down to see Eilean Donan Castle. Just as soon as we got to the parking lot they closed the castle due to high winds. We were disappointed but still enjoyed the spectacular view and inclement weather. We were experiencing the real Scotland.

So we pushed on to Loch Ness and no we didn’t see Nessy anywhere. But what we did see is Urquhart Castle. This is one of the oldest castles in Scotland. Unfortunately the inhabitants blew up the castle centuries ago. The ruins still stand and walking the ramparts overlooking Loch Ness I was awestruck as to the beauty of this place and for the people who lived here for many centuries.
