Our dear friends from Australia, Clive and Elizabeth suggested when in Barcelona we needed to see Montserrat. This we did today taking a guided tour to the mountain-top monastery. About an hour out of Barcelona the bus took us to the foot of the impressive solitary mountain range resembling a saw blade from a distance. We boarded a small train which climbed up the steep mountain overlooking 1,000 foot straight drops down.
Upon arriving at the summit we were treated to a beautiful Benedictine Monastey. The church inside had wonderful artwork and a Black Madonna statue which represented the healing powers of an actual appearance of the Madonna on the mountain top. After a wonderful tasting of the Benedictine Liquors we headed down the mountain for a lovely lunch and wine tasting. All in all a day with a lot of highs.
