The clouds began to lighten this morning and we decided to walk to town. Sorrento is a beautiful city with lots of quaint corners and streets. Our first stop was a lovely old mansion which was converted to an art gallery. Further up the walking/shopping street at the center of town we saw tons of police activity with lots of black vans driving around. What caught my eye was so many Guardia de Finanze (Finance Police) vehicles.
It turns out that today and tomorrow the G20 are holding economic discussions and meetings here in Sorrento. We saw the traffic disrupted and a poor produce delivery man being turned away from his normal route to delivery his fresh produce. It made me wonder how the most powerful economic ministers in the world plan their big economies and whether they even bother to think about the little guy and the impact they have. Maybe economy decisions are really for those who have money and can drive around in limousines and enjoy the best offerings of Sorrento.
