On Sunday, Brisbane inaugurated a new walking bridge spanning the business district to Kangaroo Point. The goal is to bridge two communities separated by the mighty Brisbane River. A bridge has been planned since the late 1800’s. It is estimated that the causeway will now take out 85,000 cars off the roads and serve several thousand people a day as well as 6,000 bike riders a day.
We attended the grand opening at 8:30 in the morning and were some of the first to walk across it. The Lord Mayor of Brisbane and several dignitaries were on hand to cut the ribbon. We were impressed by the lovely design and beautiful fixtures. On the other end was a park with excellent landscaping, stainless steel railings and plenty of space to sit and enjoy.
