Getting a GP

Nov 13

Finding a new doctor here was pretty easy since doctors are plentiful. I found one whose experience and speciality I liked. Within a week I had an appointment and could easily walk to their office.

The doctor spent 30 minutes checking me out and answering questions about my basic ailments. My blood pressure was perfect he declared! He didn’t immediately jump to prescribing medicine. Rather he reassured me that in his experience my ailments were normal for my age of 71. I got my existing two prescriptions from America refilled and sent on my way saying I could come back anytime should something else develop.

I went to the front desk to pay for my visit. It cost me $58 US and with my Australian Medicare card I was refunded $28 instantly into my bank account. At the chemist (pharmacy) next door, they filled my two prescription within 5 minutes for $10. Walking home I felt pretty good.
