In the middle of the QUT campus is the Old Government House. The Brisbane River curves around it on three sides. It is a grand old building rich in history.
We went to a free concert there featuring seven mandoline players, three guitarists, a bass player and banjo. For an hour we heard beautiful original compositions by old and new composers who were inspired by our local river. The musical sounds of all those string instruments transported us to a new auditory experience unlike any we have heard before. Like many rivers that run through famous cities, the Brisbane River serves to inspire us through sight as well as sound.
