Tarn Hows?

In the UK you will find all sorts of places with very unusual names. Tarn Hows is one of those places. It refers to a National Trust park high up in the mountains of this area. To get there you drive up a series of twisty little one lane roads while negotiating oncoming traffic. But the white knuckle drive is worth it.

When you finally arrive, you are treated to a wonderful forested park and gorgeous lake. With many hiking trail options, we took the trail that ringed a lovely lake.

Along the walk admiring the vistas, we saw many trees that were blown over from the recent gale force winds experiencing in this area. Upon closer examination many of the cut trees had odd conditions. Passing hikers have hammered coins into these stumps for good luck! So much for three coins in the fountain, here it’s three coins in a stump.
