Glencoe

Misty Mountains of Glencoe

Last night we stayed at Glencoe House. After a long drive over hill and dale from the Lake District it was great to have a beautiful old hotel to stay in. Plus an added benefit was dinner in our room and a private hot tub! This morning we enjoyed breakfast in our hotel room again with Scottish Eggs Royal (Fancy Eggs Benedict with local Salmon).

On our way out of town we stopped at the lovely Glencoe Visitor Center. There we learned about the terrible massacre of the McDonald family. We also saw a reconstructed turf house from the 17th Century.

Standing in the rain overlooking the sheer cloud laced mountains and desolate fields gave me an appreciation for the hard life the Scottish people have had. And yet, these people are some of the nicest and friendliest we have met on the planet.
