We took a trip back to El Triunfo for Sunday lunch. There we toured one of their famous gold mines. This was a successful mining community for many years. One mine produced over 300 kilos of gold per year! Which comes out to several million dollars per year in today’s dollars.
We hiked up a lovely path past old brick buildings and a tall smoke stack which is one of the major engineering marvels of the area. At the end of the trail we arrived at a gold mine. We did a lovely tour of the mining equipment and walked into a real mine where we saw gold in its natural state.
