After several days at sea you don’t see any other creatures except your fellow passengers. It can seem that the ocean and the sky is lifeless except for the undulating waves and clouds crossing the sky.
While doing our daily walk around the deck for exercise this morning, a bird miraculously appeared flying just besides us. It hovered and then passed quickly by to the front of the ship. Realizing that we were at least 300 miles from the nearest landfall, this remarkable bird lifted our hearts. Land must be close we thought. We’re finally getting there!
We couldn’t help think what Mariners from long ago must have felt after weeks without contact with the outside world. How they must have felt joy when a bird flew by their vessel. Hope and happiness was on the wing.
