Rhodes’ nickname is Island of the Knights, named after the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem, who ruled the island from 1310 to 1522. The city is one of the best preserved medieval walled city. The castle is reminiscent of those in France or Italy. Of course the Turks occupied it too and so you see many Mosques around town as well.
Our tour guide remarked that in the city cemetery you have all the denominations lying side by side …. in peace.
